Lectric XPedition 2.0: half-twist throttle swap
Safety disclaimer: This is a general guide based on the common process owners use, not official Lectric instructions. Modifying your e-bike may void your warranty. Always power off and remove the battery before working, confirm the replacement throttle's connector and voltage match your bike, and test at walking speed in a safe area. If you're unsure, have a qualified bike shop do it. You do this at your own risk.
What you'll need
- A half-twist throttle with a connector that matches your bike's throttle plug (verify before buying)
- Hex/Allen keys
- Zip ties and flush cutters
- Optional: a little isopropyl alcohol or compressed air to help slide grips off
Steps
- Power down. Turn the bike off and remove the battery.
- Trace the throttle cable. Follow it from the thumb throttle to its inline connector and note the routing. Photograph it.
- Unplug and remove the thumb throttle. Cut the zip ties holding the cable, unplug the connector, loosen the clamp bolt and slide it off.
- Remove the grip on the throttle side (loosen lock-on clamps if fitted) and slide the brake lever/shifter inboard if needed to make room.
- Fit the half-twist throttle next to the grip so it rotates freely without touching the brake lever. Reinstall the grip.
- Position the controls. Make sure you can reach the brake lever and shifter comfortably while holding the throttle.
- Connect and route the cable along the original path, with enough slack for full steering lock. Secure it with zip ties.
- Test. Reinstall the battery, lift the drive wheel off the ground and check the throttle responds smoothly and returns to zero by itself. Then test at low speed.
Troubleshooting
- No response: recheck the connector seating and pin match.
- Throttle sticks: loosen the clamp slightly or move it away from the grip.
